Overview
It is with great excitement that we introduce Fredericton's first Business Immigrant Mentorship Program. Developed in partnership with the Population Growth Secretariat of the Government of New Brunswick, the program will work to close the gap between new immigrant entrepeneurs and the wider Fredericton business community. It is an unfortunate reality that some of our immigrant investors struggle to identify suitable opportunities for investment. We feel that the creation of this program demonstrates Fredericton's commitment to becoming a more forward-thinking and inclusive city with a keen eye for business. Helping successful investment in the city and supporting new immigrant businesses is a key factor in Fredericton's development as an economic centre of the Maritimes.
Recruitment is now underway for our August 2010 cohort. Mentor and mentee will meet for approximately six hours per month over a five month period. Mentors will be drawn from our experienced Chamber membership - volunteers with a genuine commitment to making business better - whilst mentees will be accepted from all of our diverse immigrant communities. A second cohort is planned for January 2011. The broad program mandate is to target entrepeneurs with a genuine interest in establishing business in the Fredericton area.
It is expected that mentors and mentees will:
- Share their business experience
- Develop mutually beneficial business networks
- Establish clear goals to address how immigrant investors can better identify business opportunities
- Realize the potential of their ideas
The program will enable immigrant investors to integrate with the community more effectively, and operate as a front-line service when they settle in the area. Mentors will have the opportunity to learn from entrepeneurs from around the world. Each entrepeneur brings a unique perspective on successful business practice and routes to the global market. As an intelligent city Fredericton welcomes its immigrant investors and we at the Chamber of Commerce look forward to working with all of you.
Please contact us via this website with any questions, or give us a call at (506) 451-9745 and ask for Janet Moser. We welcome volunteers to the program and look forward to hearing from prospective mentors and mentees.
